Here’s what our customers say about us:
How much does a video intercom cost?
The cost of a commercial video intercom system depends on your building fabric and layout, the number of entrances, cabling requirements, door or gate release needs, and whether you want the system to integrate with access control, CCTV or mobile devices.
A simple single-door setup will cost less than a multi-entrance or multi-tenant system. The best way to get accurate pricing is to book a free site survey so we can recommend the right system for your building, users and access requirements.
Do I need a site survey before getting a quote?
In most cases, yes. A site survey helps us understand your entrances, doors, gates, cabling routes, power requirements, user needs and any existing access control or CCTV systems that you want integrating.
This means your quote is based on what will actually work on-site — not guesswork. It also helps avoid hidden costs, unsuitable equipment or installation issues later.
Can a video intercom release doors, gates or barriers?
Yes. A commercial video intercom can be configured to release doors, gates or barriers once a visitor has been verified.
This allows your team to see and speak to visitors before granting access, whether they are at reception, in an office, on-site elsewhere, or using an approved mobile device. The exact setup depends on your door hardware, gate controls and security requirements.
Can an intercom be installed anywhere?
The site must have power. If the intercom is to be wireless then there must be network too but we don’t recommend wireless as connections can be fragile.
Restrictions would apply for listed buildings or if you’re in a tenanted building. It’s important to check these factors before you sign up to an intercom system.
Can calls be routed to mobile phones or different departments?
Yes. Depending on the system, video intercom calls can be routed to reception, specific departments, separate units, security teams or approved mobile phones.
This is especially useful for businesses with multiple entrances, shared buildings, warehouses, gated sites or teams that are not always based at a front desk. We can advise on the best call-routing setup during your site review.
Should I choose a wired or wireless video intercom?
For most commercial sites, we prefer the resilience of a wired or networked video intercom, especially where security, uptime and call quality are important.
Wireless systems can be suitable in some situations, but they depend on signal strength, building layout and the level of reliability required. We will assess your site and recommend the most appropriate option based on your entrances, infrastructure and long-term needs.
Can a video intercom integrate with CCTV or access control?
Yes. Our commercial video intercom systems can integrate with access control, CCTV, door release hardware and wider security systems within our Optima software suite.
This can allow you to verify visitors visually, manage staff access with fobs or credentials, release doors remotely, and support incident review where appropriate. Integration depends on your existing systems and the type of intercom installed, so we will check compatibility before recommending a solution.
Is a video intercom suitable for multi-tenant office buildings?
Yes. Video intercoms are well suited to shared offices, serviced offices, shared commercial spaces and buildings with multiple departments or units.
Calls can be routed to the correct tenant, team or contact, helping visitors reach the right person without giving them uncontrolled access to the building. We can design a setup that matches your building layout, tenant structure and access rules.
Please note: our video intercom solutions are designed for commercial sites rather than residential apartment blocks.
What happens if the system stops working?
If your system stops working, you simply call us. Our support team will diagnose the issue and arrange the right response. Depending on the fault, this may involve remote checks, user support, replacement parts and an engineer visit.
This is why ongoing maintenance and support matter. A video intercom is a working security system, not just a one-off installation. Keeping it maintained helps reduce downtime and ensures your entrances remain properly controlled.
Do you provide maintenance and support?
Yes. We provide ongoing maintenance and support for commercial video intercom systems.
That means you have one accountable partner for advice, installation, servicing, fault support and future upgrades. Regular maintenance helps keep your system reliable, protects your investment and gives your team confidence that your access control is working when it matters.
Can you upgrade an old audio intercom to video?
Sometimes. This will depend on your existing cabling, door hardware, entry panels, handsets and access requirements. We can assess your current setup and advise whether it can be upgraded, partially reused or should be replaced with a more reliable modern system.
As we commit to long-term maintenance of your system, unless the existing infrastructure is robust, we are likely to advise recabling to future proof your new system. Book a free intercom survey and we’ll recommend the best upgrade route from your building
